Since February 2013, Aqualogy has applied its expertise, diligence and dedication to the correct management of the irrigation facilities of the El Vicario reservoir irrigation association.

Aqualogy is required to inform the association of the need for new investments, provide technical advice and justify any extraordinary expenditure. Aqualogy performs all the preventive, predictive and corrective maintenance for the irrigation facilities owned by the irrigation association.

The Segarra-Garrigues system encompasses 70,000 ha of irrigation land in the L’Urgell, El Pla d’Urgell, La Segarra, La Noguera, Les Garrigues and El Segrià regions.

Its distribution infrastructure is made up of catchments, connection pipes, reservoirs, filtering and pumping stations, distribution networks, irrigation hydrants and remote control and automation elements. The irrigation area is divided into 15 sectors.

The company created to operate the system, whose majority shareholder is Aqualogy, is required to maintain the irrigation infrastructure in good condition throughout the operation period, undertaking to make any and all investments and replacements necessary.

In the 1990s the Algerri-Balaguer Canal Irrigation Association modernised its irrigation area to improve the productivity of its farms, in an area with a long agricultural and cattle farming tradition.

In 1997, with the system fully pressurised and with 6,000 m³/ha/year of surface water, it commissioned the comprehensive management of the system to Aqualogy.

Since then, Aqualogy has been responsible for the comprehensive management of the facilities of the irrigation association (an irrigation area of 8,000 ha), the canal, the pumping stations, the reservoirs, the distribution networks, etc. This includes operation and maintenance, commercial management and the management of irrigators.

The main infrastructure planned in the project is: the catchment in the Ryah el Nasery canal, with a maximum flow of 46.66 m³/s; 400,000-m³ regulation reservoir; PS 1 and PS 2 pumping station, in catchment and in regulation reservoir with a total contracted power rating of 107,975 kW; and primary networks with a total of 50.15 km of DN 1,600- and DN 2,200-mm pipelines.

The work undertaken by Aqualogy in this contract consisted of the drafting of the following documents: analysis and diagnosis of the current infrastructure of the irrigation perimeter and study of the investment needs and possibilities for improvement in the operation of the service. The irrigation area is located in Marrakech - Tensift - El Haouz and covers 144,600 ha. The irrigation water distribution system uses canals and pressurised distribution networks.

Aqualogy’s irrigation reservoir, irrigation canal and water tank cleaning service uses state-of-the-art machinery and resources in accordance with strict efficiency and quality demands. Specific machinery is required to dredge and pump sludge from the bottom of reservoirs without damaging their waterproofing and pipes. Aqualogy also manages waste, and all its equipment in this area complies with the relevant occupational health and safety, quality and environmental regulations.

Smart metering system: iMeter

iMeter is a robust and reliable individual remote meter reading device. It has been designed not only to read the meters but also to interpret what the information means (consumptions, maximum and minimum flows, leaks, etc.). All the information collected by iMeter is sent via GPRS to a central server. The data reading and transmission frequency can be configured to meet the needs of the customer. By default, iMeter is configured to take readings every 15 minutes and send them to the system once a day. The iMeter solution is cheap and easy to install, requiring only a computer with Internet access to access the information it collates.
