WORKSHOP TO IMPROVE THE RESILIENCE OF THE CITY IN THE FRAMEWORK OF THE RESCCUE PROJECT
06 October 2017
SUEZ Advanced Solutions organized a workshop to analyze the interdependences between the urban services of Barcelona in the framework of the RESCCUE project.
The event began with a short presentation in which it was highlighted that this is the first large-scale innovation and urban resilience project of Europe to promote the management of urban services in a comprehensive manner with the aim of improving the resilience of the city. It was likewise stressed that, to implement this philosophy, RESCCUE will improve the existing HAZUR® tool, which provides an analysis of the interdependences between different services of the city and simulates the cascading effects in the event of any kind of impact that may occur.
The participants were subsequently divided into two groups and tried to analyze the operation of the urban services of Barcelona and the interdependences existing using HAZUR®. The session ended with a discussion on the complexity of cities and the inevitable need to adopt a holistic approach to urban resilience.
The work session, which took place in Ciutat de l'Aigua, included the participation of representatives of urban service operators such as Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona, Aigües de Barcelona, Autoritat del Transport Metropolità and Endesa, in addition to members of Barcelona City Council and researchers from the IREC, the Catalonia Institute for Energy Research.
