SUEZ SPAIN APPLIES ICE PIGGING TECHNOLOGY FOR HYGIENE AND DISINFECTION OF INDUSTRIAL PROCESSES
19 April 2017
SUEZ Spain collaborates with AINIA to promote the use of Ice Pigging in the food and cosmetics sectors. After having undertaken an experimental study aimed at assessing the improvement in hygienic and environmental efficiency on using this technology, they are now considering tackling new R&D projects in order to make progress with the implementation of this solution.
The experimental study, performed in the framework of the ECO-HIGIENA project, developed by AINIA in 2016 with the support of IVACE and FEDER, considered the environmental benefits of Ice Pigging in comparison with conventional water propulsion in different tests in AINIA's pilot plant. The results showed that, in relation to other conventional systems, a 33% water saving was obtained in the initial cleaning rinses in food companies and 77% in cosmetics companies.
Ice Pigging is an innovative system of SUEZ Spain which allows pipes to be cleaned using crushed ice. On introducing it into the pipe, it forms a plug which drags the sediments and the deposits, producing a descaling effect greater than draining with water or other conventional systems. The results obtained are fast, efficient and environmentally friendly.
AINIA has broad experience in subjects of hygiene and food safety, as well as in the hygienic design of facilities and in the study of new more efficient and more sustainable cleaning and disinfection technologies.
