SUEZ creates the European Union’s first network of smart meter control centres
17 October 2016
SUEZ Advanced Solutions Spain has just opened a Smart Metering Network Control Centre. This centre, located in the Ciutat de l’Aigua and dedicated to supervising smart metering networks and equipment in Iberia, allows the smart metering networks to be controlled for all their clients, and manages one million smart meters with fixed smart metering.
This new Control Centre can supervise all phases of the smart metering solution, from introduction to maintenance, and can test new solutions in the sphere of data analysis of an ecosystem focused on innovation.
From the Centre, the deployment of smart metering networks is thus designed and planned using coverage simulation tools; the correct operation of all the elements of the system is supervised; the alarms and the warnings detected are managed, and the field personnel is given remote support with the installation and maintenance tasks.
The main benefits of the smart metering solution managed and supervised through the Control Centre include the fact that the citizens can consume water more sustainably, on having real-time access to their daily water consumption and receiving alerts in the event of leaks or excessive consumption. Also, it is not necessary to arrange a face-to-face appointment to read the meter, as this can be done remotely.
The centre moreover guarantees correct use of the smart metering solution and, on using the information generated, makes it easier for its personnel to manage the water networks optimally and to detect service anomalies in real time and reduce cases of fraud.
These technologies likewise aid and promote the digital transformation of the local administrations on improving data collection in their territory and the real-time monitoring of water volumes. They can also manage consumption in municipal buildings and fulfil commitments to protect water resources.
Iberia’s Control Centre forms part of the Smart Metering factory of SUEZ Advanced Solutions. Barcelona thus opens its second Control Centre, together with the Management of the Delivery Center Iberia. The Group therefore positions itself as an international benchmark in this sphere, on managing the European Union’s first network of cutting-edge control centres.
