Ice Pigging technology, awarded a prize in the United Kingdom as best Innovation in the food industry
09 March 2016
SUEZ won the award for Best Manufacturing / Processing Technology at the World Food Innovative Awards 2016, held in London, for the application of Ice Pigging technology to the food industry. These awards are held annually and showcase the world’s most innovative products for the food industry.
Ice pigging is an innovative system to clean pipes using crushed ice. On introducing it into the pipe, it forms a plug which drags the sediments and the deposits and produces a descaling effect one thousand times greater than draining with water or other conventional systems.
In particular, its application to large-scale food preparation can bring important improvements to the efficiency of the process, to a large extent thanks to the reduction in the production of effluent and of reused water. The AQL500, the name given to the adaptation of Ice Pigging to the food industry, is fully automated machinery designed to adapt to the strict hygiene standards of food-processing plants.
On receiving the award, Matthew Stephenson, Director of Ice Pigging technology, stated that "We are delighted to have won this award. We believe that it validates the opinion that Ice Pigging is an agent of change for the main food producers. The technology is truly innovative, and we look forward to working with food producers to help to improve their efficiency".
