Ematsa installs, in Tarragona, a charger for mobile devices operated by hydropower
08 January 2016
Aguas de Tarragona (Ematsa) has installed a charger for mobile devices, designed and manufactured by SUEZ Water Spain, in Rambla Nova, Tarragona. The unit supplies electricity through hydropower produced by the urban drinking water network, by means of a pico-turbine installed in the by-pass of a control valve.
The system allows six mobile phones or other computer devices to be charged at the same time, thanks to the versatility of the connections. The system also has the advantage that it can operate 24 hours a day, provided that water is flowing through the pipes, an aspect confirmed in the studies prior to installation.
Ematsa thus positions itself as a benchmark in the efficient management of resources and of sustainable development, on using clean energy produced by the surplus pressure existing in the water distribution network. This service is completely free for the citizens.
