SUEZ Advanced Solutions will carry out the detection and reduction of non-revenue water in Serra (Brazil)
21 October 2015
SUEZ Advanced Solutions will carry out the service for the supply and execution of civil engineering work for the detection and reduction of non-revenue water in the supply system of Serra, the most important municipality of Espírito Santo state (Brazil), with an approximate population of 467,000 inhabitants, of which 115,000 will benefit from the project. It will be developed in three stages: an initial one based on engineering services, a second one on field work and a third one to carry out the implementation work.
Thus, during the first phase, a study and diagnosis of the initial situation will be carried out. For this, data will be determined and/or verified, such as the commercial cadastre existing; connections and housing units; extension of networks, diameters, materials and age of the pipes; pressure levels; number of leaks per connection and network in the last three months; mathematical modelling of the network; and the project for the actions proposed.
In a second stage, the following will be carried out with the aim of defining the actions necessary: verification of the watertightness and measurement of flows and pressures; detection of visible and non-visible leaks; tests on meters; identification of irregular connections; and the elaboration of consumption profiles; among others.
The third phase will entail the introduction of the actions proposed, including especially the installation of pressure-reducing valves, telemetry and manholes for closing sectors; replacement of connections; repair of leaks; replacement of valves and networks; etc.
This project, which will have a duration of three years, was requested by the Water Company of Espírito Santo (CESAN), the state body responsible for drinking water supply in the majority of the state’s municipalities, with a presence in 52 of the 78 municipalities, and serving a population of 2.7 million inhabitants.
