JUAN ALBERTO BELLOCH: ‘WE ARE IN THE AGE OF CITIES AND CITIZENS’
11 December 2012
The Mayor of Zaragoza, Juan Alberto Belloch, was the speaker at a new edition of the Smart City/New City Forum, sponsored by Aqualogy, held today in Madrid. The former Minister of Defence, Carme Chacón, was responsible for presenting the speaker. In her introduction, Chacón praised Belloch, stating that he is a reference in public and municipal governance, a regenerator of the Ebro River and the man responsible for the extension of the AVE to Zaragoza.
The Mayor of Zaragoza said that cities represent an opportunity for progress and social integration. For this reason, he believes the contribution made from the urban environment is essential. ‘We are in the age of cities and citizens’, highlighted Belloch. During his speech, the mayor of Zaragoza shared his ideas on ending the crisis. Belloch explained that social democratic ideals must recognize the social and economic changes we experience, and also defended the need for a new policy, which should be constructed as an alternative to global financial capitalism.
After the question and answer session, the ceremony was closed by the area manager of Aqualogy, Sergio Soriano, who thanked all of the participants for their attendance, particularly that of Mayor Belloch.
