Water supply network detection

Underground drinking water and wastewater pipes are located by means of a device that uses ultra-high frequency waves. It is an ultra-sensitive tool that uses high-frequency microwaves to penetrate the earth and locate almost any pipe in the subsurface.

This technology is effective even in clay, wet earth, snow and over water without the need for a separate transmitter and receiver or extra clips or cables. Especially designed to meet the needs of the water, gas and electricity industries, the device locates water pipes quickly and easily, maximising work efficiency.

Water leak detection

Physical losses are those arising from breaks or leaks in the distribution network.

Two methods are used to detect physical losses: the first is based on the propagation of sound through the various materials (acoustic system) and the second on helium tracer-gas systems (iDROLOC).
The acoustic location methods that are used (acoustic and electroacoustic geophones; correlation equipment) are mainly based on the sound transmission variations produced by a leak in the ground and the water outlet of a pressurised pipe, at its maximum intensity point, cross-referencing this sound with certain points to locate the water output at a distance from one of the points of the chosen section where the leak is.

The tracer-gas method (iDROLOC) enables the detection of leaks without interrupting the provision of the water service. It is useful for both the detection of water leaks in long-distance and large-diameter pipelines and in small distribution pipes and connections in urban environments.

Smart metering for the control and management of water consumptions

iMeter is an autonomous remote reading solution aimed at military establishments and centres in isolated environments. iMeter precisely controls the consumption of a water meter 24 hours a day. As it is an M2M (machine-to-machine) device it is easy to install in the field, and costly IT work is not required.

Connected by means of GPRS to a secure and robust central server, iMeter provides the user with a range of management, control and analysis possibilities. It can be used to manage alarms about leaks or abnormal consumption levels and even conduct analyses to correctly dimension the meter.

Water balance

By studying and calculating the water balance it is possible to analyse the performance of the drinking water network within a military facility, estimate the consumption of each one of the services provided and compare them to the total consumption of the facility.

This water balance calculation is used to detect internal leaks and to estimate the extent to which the use of the resource can be reduced.

Reuse and use of rainwater

The performance of the reuse circuits is estimated and critical points are defined. The rain and the catchment volume potential are estimated.

The aim is to optimise and/or implement efficient water reuse systems and implement rainwater collection and use systems.

Automation and instrumentation

The objective is the identification of measuring needs, critical points and control in all processes linked to water and its quality (supply, recirculation, separation of grease and hydrocarbons, etc.).

This will lead to better and more efficient identification and selection of equipment for the measurement and general and continuous control of consumptions within the facility. Its operation is assessed.

Automatic water quality measurement and control systems are implemented at the critical and decision points in the internal processes of the military facility.

Energy efficiency

Energy efficiency analysis centres on studying the equipment of the military base with the highest consumption levels and therefore the most potential savings, offering solutions or actions to make improvements to the equipment or operational improvements, in accordance with their investment and profitability. Moreover, electricity rates may also be improved through the optimisation of the existing contract, which does not necessarily have to cost anything. These actions can lead to direct savings, making it easier to tackle other improvements.

These analyses centre on the study of existing electricity rates, the study of thermal systems for heating and DHW, the study of street lighting systems and the analysis of the characteristics (capacity, power and frequency of use), operation and energy needs of electromechanical equipment related to water consumption.

Water, air and soil analysis

Analysis of the quality of the water, air and soil in all the processes and services of the military facility. This allows us to understand the behaviour of water within the various processes of said facility.

The quality of drinking water and discharges is controlled, contaminated land is analysed, reused water, wells and aquifers are analysed, waste is classified, air quality is controlled, haemodialysis water is controlled, etc.

Physicochemical analyses (organic, metal), microbiological analyses, toxicological analyses and specific waste analyses are also performed.

Bio-safety (Legionella)

It is a global service that includes all the actions necessary for the prevention, control and eradication of Legionella at all types of facilities associated with its proliferation and transmission.

The risk of microbial infection for an installation is variable and depends on a number of factors related to location, type of use, state, etc. Risk assessment takes into account structural factors (pertaining to the facility), maintenance factors (treatment and maintenance undertaken) and operational factors (operation of the facility).

Once this initial assessment has been conducted, protocols can be specifically designed for the suitable control and maintenance of the risks detected at each facility.

Drinking water and wastewater treatment

In the scope of the operation of WWTPs, DWTPs and desalination plants, in the area of operation and maintenance, Aqualogy develops this activity with the following objectives: the optimisation of the various processes through the application of the latest technologies, the minimisation of energy consumption, the assurance of treatment performance levels in each one of the three areas and the analytical control of the water quality, in addition to the correct environmental management of the sludge, waste, brine and by-products generated in the treatment processes.

The discharge monitoring and control programme is revised and/or designed and the quality of the water is analysed at all the critical points of the process (recirculation water, separation of grease and oils, treatment, etc.).

Discharge inspections and authorisations, the legalisation of facilities, licences, concessions and resources are analysed.

Toxic and hazardous discharges are removed and managed. Management of clean points. Decontamination of land. Soil remediation. Management of shell casings at drill grounds and firing ranges. Cleaning of tanks and pipes that have contained hydrocarbons, etc.

The objective is to guarantee compliance with the discharge control programme and define improvement possibilities, reducing environmental impact and avoiding possible fines related to these aspects.

Water footprint and carbon footprint

Calculate, taking into account the consumptions, discharges and reuse potential, the current water footprint of each facility.

The optimal water footprint of each facility is determined with a view to certification in water responsibility as an environmental responsibility achievement.

With regard to the carbon footprint, a methodology is developed and applied to determine the greenhouse gas emissions of human activities and, more specifically, of activities related to the complete water cycle.

Consultancy and environmental monitoring

Environmental impact assessment is a technical-administrative process undertaken to evaluate the adverse effects of a project, plan or programme on the environment before it is authorised.

Should potential impacts be detected, measures can be adopted to modify, correct and/or redress the situation and environmental monitoring plans can be implemented in post-execution phases. The contamination of the groundwater and soil at the facility is monitored in addition to environmental responsibility legislation, control of atmospheric emissions and consultancy in waste management.

Consultancy, design, works management and monitoring and monitoring of environmental restoration works in natural, urban, peri-urban and river areas, material extraction areas, slag heaps and areas with soil contamination.

Water production and supply system
