HEALTHCARE

Health centres require optimal sanitary conditions at their facilities in order to ensure the highest quality of health and safety, as well as guarantee compliance with the very demanding legislation applicable to these services.

At Aqualogy we provide solutions and technologies for the integrated management of water resources, water facilities and air conditioning equipment at health facilities, in addition to guaranteeing their efficiency and consumption monitoring.

Innovation in processes and an outlook based on sustainability are factors common to all the projects to improve water and air conditioning facilities in which Aqualogy is involved, structured around:

  • Environmental health and safety: environmental monitoring, drinking water and wastewater treatment, and bio-safety.
  • Optimization of water- and air-related infrastructure: network maintenance, supply of materials, technology and systems.
  • Reduction of water and energy consumption: network efficiency, reuse, energy efficiency and optimization of water consumption.
  • Guarantee of the supply of water resources: infrastructure master plan, contingency plans and storage systems.
  • Human resources and knowledge management.

COMPREHENSIVE BIO-SAFETY SERVICE

COMPREHENSIVE BIO-SAFETY SERVICE

Water and air-conditioning facilities in healthcare centres contain critical points that can become public health hazards.

Implementing a comprehensive bio-safety plan in a hospital means an optimum guarantee of biological safety can be maintained and ensures legal requirements and other good practice guidelines or protocols are met, for both the correct maintenance of facilities and an adequate water and air quality monitoring and control plan. The preventative actions aimed at reducing or controlling hospital-acquired infections or other types of environmental contaminations are another of the objectives considered in our comprehensive bio-safety plan.

IAQ (INDOOR AIR QUALITY) CONTROL

IAQ (INDOOR AIR QUALITY) CONTROL

Indoor air quality is one of the main health risks identified by the World Health Organisation (WHO). Today, the inhabitants of the most industrialised or developed cities spend between 60 and 80% of their time in closed spaces, hence poor indoor air quality could seriously affect their health.

Current regulations on the matter specify maintenance work, revisions and inspections and quality measurement and control involving both physicochemical and microbiological parameters to improve indoor air quality and maintain closed spaces in conditions that do not harm people’s health.

OPERATING ROOM VALIDATION

OPERATING ROOM VALIDATION

In surgical areas, maintenance of optimum environmental quality is essential for keeping hospital-acquired infections under control.

For over 10 years, Aqualogy has been carrying out environmental controls in clean rooms such as those in the pharmaceutical industry and operating rooms. These controls analyse microbiological contamination (aerobic microorganisms and pathogenic fungi) and particle counts. Recently, UNE 171340 on ‘validation and evaluation of controlled environment rooms in hospitals’ was published, establishing the environmental controls to be performed in controlled environment rooms in health centres. These controls are basically the same as we have been offering in operating rooms with one or two additional tests.

COMPREHENSIVE WATER MANAGEMENT FOR DIALYSIS

COMPREHENSIVE WATER MANAGEMENT FOR DIALYSIS

The drinking water used for human consumption does not meet the current minimum quality requirements for haemodialysis and thus is of no use for manufacturing dialysis liquid and needs to be purified.

Therefore, a water treatment plant is required. Adequate treatment of water for haemodialysis includes different stages that may be defined as preparation, pre-treatment, treatment and distribution. Aqualogy has proven knowledge and certified personnel necessary for the comprehensive management of water treatment plants for dialysis as well as the quality control of water for hospital nephrology services, all in strict compliance with quality standards and current legislation.

PREVENTION OF LEGIONNAIRES’ DISEASE

PREVENTION OF LEGIONNAIRES’ DISEASE

Healthcare centres have facilities that are at risk of producing Legionella proliferation. In this context, cooling towers, evaporative condensers and domestic hot water facilities, all classified as high risk in accordance with Royal Decree 865/2003, require adequate maintenance work, checks on the state of conservation and regulatory cleaning and disinfections.

Current regulations provide detailed specifications of the tasks required and the frequency of each, as well as everything related to the supply of biocides and other chemical products.
